Ellen O'Connor, RN, BSN, MS
Deputy Director of Nursing

Ellen O'Connor has a BSN, MSN and received her Nurse Practitioner Certificate. She has been an employee of Jacobi Medical Center for 26 years. She has worked in numerous areas of the hospital such as the 5E CCU and the Adult Emergency Department, where she advanced from a Staff Nurse to the Role of Supervisor. She then went on to become the ADN for Nursing Education, the Associate Director for the Department of Med/Surg and finally to her current position as the Deputy Director of Performance Improvement and Patient Education.

Ellen O'Connor has always been a role model no matter what position she has held at JMC. She has been instrumental in establishing a functional Patient Education Library on our current HDS system. She is also responsible for the policy and procedure manual that governs the nurse's scope of practice at JMC/NBCH. She is involved in several projects that are looking for ways to improve patient care. She is actively involved in establishing policies and or protocols that help encourage good skin care for all our patients. She also helped to develop guidelines that help assess many of our patients who may be a fall risk. In conjunction with IT Ellen assisted in the formulation of many nursing procedures, including but not limited to Antiembolic Devices, Fall Risk, Decubitus Risk & Teaching Aids.

She has evaluated many procedures for content and workflow resulting in improved documentation. Her attention to detail has been invaluable in the evaluation and testing process. She continues to work with the HHC to set the standards for Medication Administration across the corporation.

She is also involved in the monitoring of restraint usage at Jacobi Medical Center/ North Central Bronx Hospitals and is a very important and valuable resource during Joint Commission Surveys.
