Marsha Flashburg has been employed as a Staff Nurse at Coney Island Hospital for 33 years, assigned to the Medical Office Practice Department. She obtained her BSN in 1990 and in 1992 received her Masters Degree in Health Administration. She was promoted to Head Nurse in 1985 due to her outstanding leadership skills and job performance. Ms. Flashburg received her certification in Community Health in 1996. Her love for holistic medicine led her to obtain certification in 1995. In 1999, she became a third degree Reiki Master and presently offers her skills as a Reiki instructor for the Complimentary Medicine Department.
Ms. Flashburg has played an active role I two of HHC’s collaboratives, “Advance Acess” and presently “Chronic Disease Self Management” for CHF. She frequently volunteers to participate in community outreach health fairs and administration of immunizations during the influenza season.
Martha is described by her peers as enthusiastic, motivated, knowledgeable, friendly and responsible. She is always willing to go the extra mile, consistently there for the patients and staff. She has great concern for the safety of her patients, especially the elderly. Ms Flashburg demonstrates excellent teaching skills and competency in the field of Ambulatory Care Medicine. She is truly an asset to Coney Island Hospital Nursing Department and well deserving of the HHC recognition award.
