Mary Guarneri is a graduate of Queens Hospital Center School of Nursing. She earned her Baccalaureate degree of Nursing from C.W. Post, Summa Cum Laude and her Masters degree in Nursing from Lehman Collage-Summa Cum Laude.

Mary maintains professional memberships in the Nursing Honor Society -Sigma Theta Tau, American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing, National League for Nursing, New York Association for Ambulatory Care and the Case Management Society of America

Mary has a rich professional nursing career, spanning 31 years within Community Health Nursing. She spent fifteen years within Home Care, where she initiated and developed the Maternal Child Pediatric Home Care Program at Elmhurst Hospital in 1990 and regionalized services to Queens Hospital Center. She was promoted to Director of Patient Services 1997-1999.

In 2000, Mary returned to Ambulatory Care, where she is responsible for nursing services for the hospital, eight off-site clinics and five school based health programs.

She has been an active participant in the Institute for Health Care Improvement Collaborative to improve care for patients with diabetes. This has led to her role as a faculty member for Health and Hospitals Corporation Chronic Disease Improvement Collaborative. In that role, Mary’s leadership in working with clinical teams across the corporation on how to help patients with self management support –key to improving their outcomes- has been innovative and generous. She is also a strong advocate for ensuring that the patient’s voice is heard as we re-design and improve our systems. Mary also provides leadership and is an active member of the HHC Collaborative disease management teams at Elmhurst: Diabetes, Congestive Heart Failure and Pediatric Diabetes teams. She is a leadership team member for Ambulatory Care Restructuring Initiative. Mary’s innovative work is continuing with the development and initial implementation of a Care Management Model within Ambulatory Care at Elmhurst, designed to support and extend the work of the chronic disease clinical teams. Mary Guarneri has worked a total of 25 years at Elmhurst Hospital.
