Marjorie Ryan, RN, BSN, BC
Head Nurse Pediatric Intensive Care

Marjorie Ryan has distinguished herself as Head Nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center. She was trained as a Registered Nurse in Montserrat, West Indies. Ms. Ryan began her career at Lincoln as a Registered Nurse in 1981. In 2002, she received her Bachelor of Science, Magna Cum Laude, from Mercy College.

She is a hard working, diligent individual, who cares about her patients and colleagues alike. She is a great head nurse with excellent leadership abilities. She is efficient and always ensures that the unit is adequately staffed for all tours. In the event of a staff shortage on an off tour, Ms. Ryan can always be counted on to come in and cover the unit. She is extremely supportive of her staff and is always approachable and responsive to their concerns. When problems arise on the unit, she manages it immediately. Ms. Ryan follows up with any issues regarding patient care and effectively communicates with the nurses in the Pediatric Emergency Department and Pediatric Clinic to address those issues. She is extremely detailed and diligently follows through on any issues that may have been missed in a patient report during an admission.

Ms. Ryan does “hands on” patient care on a daily basis and often works long after her shift is over to assist her staff. She doesn’t request compensation for her time, because as she would say, “I just want to make sure that my staff is taken care of.”

Ms. Ryan extends herself by doing research on unusual cases and admissions. She then shares this information with the staff to ensure that they are kept abreast of the current trends in Pediatric Critical Care. She encourages her staff to go to external conferences and to pursue higher levels of learning. She is respected by Nurses and Doctors alike. Everyone knows that when Marjorie is on the unit they do not need to worry, because she takes care of everything.

Ms Ryan keeps updated with the current trends and continues to learn. She is presently enrolled in a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program at Lehman College. She is a well rounded, balanced individual and deserves to be recognized for her extraordinary efforts and quality service she provides everyday. We are so proud to have her as a member of our team and mentor to her co-workers.
