Juliet Wallace started her nursing career as a pediatric nurse at Harlem Hospital Center in 1976, after graduating from the Harlem Hospital Center School of Nursing. She has over the years, worked in many areas which include pediatric and adolescent units, pediatric clinic and the adult emergency department.
She is presently the Diabetic Nurse Educator and Skin Care Coordinator responsible for the education of our diabetic patients and their families, as well as the medical and nursing staff. As the Diabetic Educator she has the ability to relate to all patients at their own educational level in a culturally sensitive and respectful manner. She sets goals with the patient in the management of their diabetes to prevent diabetic complications and ensures that all patients upon discharge are knowledgeable of the use of their blood glucose monitoring device, medication administration, exercise, and meal plan.
Ms. Wallace also takes part in community outreach programs performing diabetic screening at schools, churches and adult day care centers.
As the Skin Care Coordinator she works closely with the medical and nursing staff, as well as the patient and their families towards reducing the incidence of hospital acquired pressure ulcers. This reduction is a result of her vigilant staff and patient education and the implementation of preventive skin care products that she was instrumental in obtaining.
Ms. Wallace served in the United States Army Reserve Nurse Corps for 22 years, where served in many leadership roles and retired in 2002 as Lieutenant Colonel. In her church she is very active as a Deaconess and in the Health department.
